The Linux Bandwidth Monitor, or bwmon, is a tool designed to measure the utilization of bandwidth on a per-interface basis.
One unique feature of bwmon is that it can only run on Linux systems, as it accesses the /proc/net/dev and /proc/uptime files. These files provide important data for the program, allowing it to accurately measure bandwidth usage. At user-selected intervals, bwmon prints out the bandwidth usage for each network interface. Additionally, the program also tracks maximum bandwidth usage since initialization and average bandwidth usage since the last reboot.
This bandwidth monitoring utility has been tested on various Linux distributions such as SuSE and RedHat, as well as different versions of Linux including 2.2.x, 2.4.x, and 2.5.x. To compile the program, simply enter the command "$ make". Installation is optional and can be done by entering "# make install". Alternately, users can simply copy the bwmon binary wherever they want it to run. Overall, Linux Bandwidth Monitor is a great tool for anyone seeking to keep track of their network usage.
