The Linux Napster Client is a Napster client that runs on the console.
Nap was initially introduced by Kevin Sullivan back in 1999. It was among the primary napster clients, aside from Shawn Fanning's Windows original client. Nap was also the inaugural client that could run on a Linux operating system. Kevin collaborated with Jordan Ritter, who was one of the co-founders of Napster and its Chief Server Architect at the time, to gain an in-depth understanding of the inner workings of the Napster protocol.
The development of Nap continued under new guidance in February 2001. New patches were initially added until they grew too extensive, necessitating the creation of full releases. We have added various features to the original design to make Nap more dependable, user-friendly, and robust while preserving the initial look and feel. Today, Nap is arguably one of the most stable Napster clients for Linux.
Nap has been developed for and shipped with various popular platforms, and it now comes with some Debian Linux and OpenBSD distributions. In this release, the default meta-server has been changed to www.gotnap.com.
