A software application designed for real aviation that facilitates flight planning.
MFP allows users to create their own waypoint database to use for flight planning. While it may seem like a tedious task at first, creating and maintaining a personal database is less laborious than it appears. General Aviation pilots typically use 20-30 waypoints in their area, and adding a handful when flying to new locations. This approach saves users the cost of purchasing thousands of waypoints they may never use.
In MFP, users can create flight plans that they can print for in-cockpit use by simply dragging and dropping. To calculate wind-corrected magnetic heading, distance, ground speed, time intervals, and total time, users are required to enter True airspeed, wind heading, and speed for each leg. Additionally, users can record altitude and lowest safe altitude for each leg. The software displays the total time of the flight, distance, and total nautical air miles travelled.
Users can also enter their departure date and time, and the software computes the departure time in UTC, arrival time in local, and UTC. It also indicates whether the user will arrive or depart before or after sunset. The software also displays the exact sunrise and sunset times for the departure and arrival airports.
Overall, Mac Flight Planner is an excellent tool that can be used to aid pilot's planning activities. However, users need to exercise extreme caution when using the software and adhere to standard planning procedures to ensure their safety.
