MacFDTD is a versatile software that serves as an effective solution for silicon optics layout and simulation.
This software is designed specifically for Macintosh and comes with a range of features to make designing and testing circuits easier than ever before. Here's what you need to know about MacFDTD:
Basic layout abilities, 5-function variable equation support, and basic GDSII format exporting are just a few of the core features. You can now save and load files associated with the .fdtd extension. A format that has been introduced specifically for this program.
Multiple documents are also now possible, so users can work on multiple schematics simultaneously. The latest release includes Layout Index and Permeability profile functions, and comes with an updated animation window.
Although the simulation engine is preliminary, it is still an excellent addition to MacFDTD. But be aware that it does not yet support some materials and sources. Sensors have not yet been implemented, so all results are purely qualitative.
MacFDTD is now offering an easier method of saving and loading simulations through a new format. It's worth noting that this format is incompatible with previous saved simulations.
Another exciting feature is the support for extending simulations. This means users can pick up where they left off on a previous simulation. However, this feature is still incomplete.
The software has undergone internal changes to improve the code maintenance and performance. MacFDTD now also offers better support for indexes, permeabilities, and conductivities.
Other features include snap-to-grid, revert to selection cursor options, cancel simulations while running, clipboard functionality, shape rotations, tooltips, and duplicate and delete tools.
MacFDTD offers a full layout scripter, which comes with an easy-to-use clickable interface. For users unsure of how to navigate the script, a demo script has been hosted on the dev page.
The software now includes a plugin system for users to analyze results. This comes with a basic Electric field plotter. But, the developers promise that there will be better plugins coming along soon.
MacFDTD offers one of the best simulators on the market, with a range of features that are certain to make your circuit designing experience seamless.
