MailKount is a Kicker applet that periodically monitors the count of emails on one or two POP servers.
This program is the developer's first C++ project in approximately three years and his first Qt/KDE application. Though small, it's packed with useful features that many individuals can benefit from.
Installation is simple and straightforward, requiring users to first navigate to the directory containing the package's source code and type "./configure" to configure it for their system. Any old System V that uses "csh" might require typing "sh ./configure" to prevent "csh" from attempting to execute "configure" itself.
While configuring, the system prints some messages about which features it is checking for. Afterwards, users need to type "make" to compile the package and "make install" to install the programs and any data files and documentation. After installation, unnecessary program binaries and object files from the source code directory can be removed by typing "make clean".
Recent updates to MailKount include a fix for a bug that prevented notifications from being sent if an email was only received on the first box. Thanks go to japc for the "EXAMINE" command.
Overall, MailKount is a well-designed and user-friendly program that anyone who uses webmail can benefit from. It's easy to install, configurable for various systems, and offers a variety of helpful features.
