This software widget displays the recent execution dates of maintenance scripts and can also run them.
Furthermore, Maintidget allows you to run the OS X Maintenance Scripts on demand by simply entering your administrator password and clicking on the Run Scripts button. What sets Maintidget apart is that it is the first Dashboard Widget to offer such a feature.
The latest version, 1.1, introduces the ability to select which scripts you want to run (though the daily script must always be run). Additionally, version 1.2 now works with admin accounts that don't have a password assigned. Version 1.3 allows you to open logs in the console by clicking on the Daily/Weekly/Monthly labels. Checking for updates is made easy through a link in the widget.
The widget has been given a slick redesign by Jason Jacques that includes multiple skins, and version 1.4 introduces new authentication logic that should reduce false-negatives when running scripts while also helping those with blank passwords.
With Maintidget, you can keep track of when your Mac runs the scripts and force them to run if needed. These maintenance scripts perform various tasks, but do note that the weekly script can take a long time to run (up to 10 minutes depending on the speed of the computer). During this time, the "Running Scripts" message will show in Maintidget, so avoid refreshing the widget as this will remove the message, which will automatically disappear once the scripts have finished running.
Overall, Maintidget is an essential tool for anyone who wishes to maintain the performance of their computer with ease. Its practical features and easy-to-use interface make it an indispensable addition to your toolbox.
