Marauder-ah is a 2D game that takes place in space and revolves around combat. Players engage in space battles and use weapons to defeat their enemies.
The premise of the game takes players many years into the future, in the farthest corners of the galaxy. The goal is to earn as much money as possible while avoiding being shot. At the beginning of the game, players will find themselves in control of a little spaceship in the center of the screen. Use the left and right arrow keys to turn, and the up arrow to fire the thrusters. Remember that once you start moving, it's not easy to stop. To come to a halt, players must eventually coast, but if in a hurry, they can turn and fire the thrusters in the opposite direction.
As players explore, they will encounter planets and other ships, which they can view on the radar display at the top right of the screen. When approaching a planet, it's essential to remember that flying into them causes damage. However, players can fly up close to a planet and press ENTER to go to the shipyard.
The updated release of Marauder-ah includes a range of new features and improvements. For example, the code is corrected to compile with allegro 4.1.15 and gcc 3. Game loops have been improved with the addition of rest(0) to drop CPU. The top left of the screen now includes added information. Players can now repair if less than 10% damage, and most of the joystick support-related calls have been removed.
Other changes and improvements include the removal of the play midi calls, keybindings now defined in keybinds.h, increased bullet and treasure life, speed variation, and the ability to use laser, proton and matter together. Players can now configure keybindings using Zlog code, and there's no longer any VC++-related stuff in the makefile. Players can still use mingw32, and there are plenty of new command-line options to discover, including the option to use mouse support.
Midi files have also been removed from marauder.dat, weapon prices have changed, and ships are now randomly drawn at each execution of the program. Finally, enemies can upgrade their weapons, and the player can sell their items in game. Marauder-ah is a significant improvement over the original game, with plenty of new features and benefits that really improve gameplay.
