Mcplay software offers more than a typical frontend for mpg123.
The name 'mcplay' stands for "my cool player" or "my cloned player" as it is a C-clone of the renowned program 'cplay' which is written in python. Although in beta stage, mcplay proves to be an excellent software despite lacking a comfortable installation routine. There might be some bugs, however, it is still a promising software.
To start using mcplay, the user must uncompress the tar-gz file using the command `tar xvzf myfile.tar.gz'. They should then change to the newly created subdirectory and edit the Makefile, for instance, via the command vi Makefile. The lines to change are marked with comments in the Makefile. Once done, the user can type 'make' and mcplay should compile.
If the user prefers a system-wide installation, they should become root by typing 'su'. To enable mcplay's -a option (get a high priority) for all users, the user must make it suid root by typing 'chown root mcplay chmod +s mcplay'. Now the program can be installed system-wide via the command 'make install'. Overall, mcplay is an impressive software suitable for anyone looking for a reliable audio player with exceptional features.
