Metisse is a groundbreaking 3D X desktop software that is being developed and tested for experimental purposes.
Xwnc is a combination of Xvnc and XDarwin which does not depict any display on your screen. Instead, it displays everything into pixmaps. Xwnc can transmit these pixmaps and other related information to a "viewer" similar to Xvnc, but with another protocol. FvwmAmetista, a viewer, leverages OpenGL via nucleo to render the X desktop into a window of a typically 3D accelerated X server.
The software is effortless to install; however, you need an already established Nucleo library on your device. Version 0.3.5 requires nucleo-0.1-20041216. By following the standard procedure of the configure, make, su, and make install sequence, compiling, and installing nucleo is straightforward. The nucleo-config script should be in your PATH. Before starting, it is recommended to install the wm-icons package alongside xclock and xload.
While preparing the build, use the ./configure --prefix=where_you_want_to_install [other relevant options] command. The default Xwnc font path is /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi; however, changing this path with the --font-path option is possible. If your font encoding directory file is not in the directory /usr/lib/X11/fonts/encodings/encodings.dir, you may utilize the "--with-fontenc-file" option.
You may activate GLX support (for OpenGL applications) by utilizing --enable-glx or --enable-glx-x86 (for an x86 cpu). Note that the OpenGL rendering is not expedited. Though glxgear does not function well for now, other Mesa demo programs, as well as the xlock 3D demo, work flawlessly. Still, the "invert" program crashes Xwnc. For a comprehensive list of options to configure, type in configure --help=recursive.
Eventually, type make, su, and make install to install the software successfully. Note that the modified FVWM in Metisse does not supplant your typical FVWM. The fvwm executable is referred to as 'fvwmi', and the modules are under prefix/libexec/fvwm-insitu/X.Y.Z/.
