Migshm is a DSM (Distributed Shared Memory) software patch designed specifically for openMosix, which allows for enhanced memory sharing and communication among nodes in a cluster.
One of the major drawbacks of openMosix is the lack of migration support for multi-threaded applications and those that rely on shared memory. Consequently, these applications cannot take advantage of openMosix's load-balancing features. With Migshm, this limitation is addressed.
The acronym Migshm stands for Migration of shared memory. Although not a complete DSM at present, it is adequate in enabling shared memory applications to benefit from openMosix. Migshm facilitates the migration of SYSV shared memory-based processes through system calls such as shmget(), shmat(), shmdt(), and shmctl(). Moreover, threads created using the clone() system call can also be migrated with Migshm.
In summary, Migshm is a promising tool that opens up new possibilities for openMosix users by overcoming limitations associated with shared memory and multi-threaded applications.
