MikMod Utilities is a set of tools used for managing module sound files made by programs such as Soundtracker.
The following are the tools that the MikMod Utilities collection contains:
- mmuinfo: This tool provides useful information about the module sound files.
- mmuplay: This tool lets you play module files quickly.
- mmuplaysmp: This feature is dedicated to playing samples from audio files.
- mmurender: This tool allows for effortless conversion of audio files to diverse audio formats.
- mmurip: This feature effectively extracts useful samples from the audio files.
- mmutotal: This tool calculates total time for all modules.
All of MikMod Utilities’ tools also support automatic modules decompression from bzip, gzip, and pkzip archives. Users can configure this feature during compile-time as well as manage it during run-time. Except for mmutotal, all of the tools can load modules from standard input.
The prerequisites necessary for running MikMod Utilities include MikMod Sound Library, Audio File Library, Readline Library, Bzip2 and Zlib. This release of MikMod Utilities brings along a bunch of new features, including options such as “--skip” and “--count” for mmuplay and mmurender, allowing you to play or render specific chunks.
Other new features include the “--progress” option for mmurender and mmutotal, which displays progress information, and the “--filesfrom” and “--filesfromcmd” options that enable module list loading from files, standard input, and output of commands. Finally, mmuplay has a new feature that displays module information by pressing the “i,” “c,” “u,” and “s” keys, with minor improvements thrown in for good measure.
