mirrorVertex software is primarily used to create symmetrical blendShapes.
To access the software, open the script UI by typing mirrorVertex into the command line. Then, select the baseObject and click the "SET BASE OBJECT" button. This will enable the MV_CreateLUT plugin to calculate the ID Table required for matching vertex IDs. The calculation of the ID LUT is a one-time job.
To mirror the object, select the blendShape target that you want to mirror and click "mirror." Similarly, to make a symmetric blendShape target, select the vertices that you want to make symmetric and then hit "reflect." If you have issues with vertices located in the symmetry axis, it indicates that they're not near enough to the symmetry axis. In this case, select an edge of the baseObject at the center, convert the selection to an edge loop, then to vertices, and hit "get tolerans button." This will calculate the distances from the selected vertices to the symmetry axis and set the tolerans to a plausible number (tolerans is for the vertices located on the symmetry axis).
Once you hit "get tolerans," a new ID LUT will be created, and you can use the "mirror" or "reflect" button to continue your blendShape creation without any difficulty. The checkbox "use MEL" allows the software to use the MEL search function instead of the API version, making the process slower but usable in any version of Maya.
MirrorVertex requires Maya version 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x. The most recent version includes added support for Maya 2008. Overall, this software is an excellent choice for those who need precise symmetry in their blendShape creation.
