MMP is a quick and uncomplicated interface for Mplayer or MPG123 on X11, using the WINGs toolkit.
For anyone who wants to compile MMP, it should work well on any decent UNIX clone with a make command. It is essential to note that you need Window Maker installed for building the program, not for running it. It may also be necessary to tweak the paths in the makefile where you can choose between mplayer and mpg123 backend when making specific choices.
Once the program is up and running, there is no need to open files and directories manually. The program automatically opens the directory that was open when it was last run. Alternatively, with directories or file arguments, you can open specific files and directories or play a chosen media file.
The software is intuitive and easy to use. To play a file, double-click on the file, and the program will automatically play the video or audio file. Alternatively, you can single-click on a file to mark it as the next file to be played while another file is currently running.
To use the MMP player, you must have the Window Maker 0.92 installed as well as MPlayer (recommended) and MPG123 (optional).
In this release, MMP has gone through several improvements and display-related bug fixes. The software has been modified to scroll file titles that are too long to display fully. In addition, it now parses broken UTF-8 encoded file names and meta-information correctly by parsing them into ISO-8859-1. This release also includes fixes for covering images and numerous color configuration options. Moreover, time information now works well with files longer than 999 seconds, while the system tries its best to find the artist and title of each file played. If no artist is found, codec information is displayed instead.
Overall, MMP is an excellent media player that is incredibly user friendly while offering excellent performance. Anyone looking for a simple and efficient media player should give it a try.
