MP3 Report Generator scans (sub)directories and creates reports via customizable HTML templates.
One of the features that I really appreciated was its versatility--you can configure all of its options through the command line. For a breakdown of all the different options available, simply run "mp3report.pl --help" to view a comprehensive list.
Another cool aspect of MP3 Report Generator is that you can modify its hard coded defaults at the top of the program file. This means that truly advanced users can customize it to their heart's content.
To get started using the program, all you need to do is run "mp3report.pl [options] [directory...]." From there, you can use various command line options to further tweak your experience. Here are a few examples:
--help: Shows a complete help screen.
--printmode: Uses a smaller font for optimal printing.
--title=TITLE: Sets the title used in the report.
--outfile=OUTFILE: Set the file to write the report to (you can use '-' for STDOUT).
--template=FILE: Use a specific file as a report template.
--stdgenres: Uses standard genres instead of winamp genres.
--id3v2: Experimental ID3v2 support.
Overall, I was really impressed with MP3 Report Generator. It's a straightforward program that gets the job done quickly and easily. If you're looking for a tool to create detailed reports on your music collection, I highly recommend this one.
Finally, installation is a breeze. Simply decompress the file and run "mp3report.pl --help" to get started. If your Perl interpreter isn't in /usr/bin/perl, you'll need to update the first line of the program file. All in all, this is a great program that I'll definitely be using again in the future!
