Mp3mixer allows real-time mixing of multiple MPEG audio streams in a user-friendly system.
The software is a reconstruction of an old piece of software. It allows users to mix two audio streams generated from mpeg audio files with volume and speed controls. The code is a wrapper that uses mpg123 to decode the mpeg files into raw audio data. The program then applies speed control and mixes the two audio streams.
Maintaining throughput requires a high-spec machine to keep the audio pipe fed. There is a perceptible delay between hitting a key and the output changing due to the buffer used for talking to the sound card. It is possible to reduce this delay by shrinking the buffer, but doing so increases the likelihood of skips due to the buffer running dry.
