MPEG4IP is a comprehensive solution for streaming multimedia, offering a complete suite of tools for end-to-end exploration of media content.
The package incorporates a live MPEG-4/H.261/MPEG-2/H.263 MP3/AAC/AMR broadcaster and file recorder, command line utilities like an MP4 file creator and hinter, and a player capable of streaming and playing back from a local file. Though our development is focused on the Linux platform, we have also ported it to Windows, Solaris, FreeBSD, BSD/OS, and Mac OS X. However, the software may be used on other platforms without any difficulty since many of the included packages are already multi-platform.
It is essential to note that the mp4live feature is exclusively available on the Linux platform, and the package does not contain any executables. Hence, it is not designed for end-users. Before proceeding with the software, please read all the legal information to understand whether it is suitable for you.
The software supports an array of file formats, including avi, mp4, limited .mov, .mpg (transport and program streams), .wav, raw aac, raw mp3, raw mp4v, raw .h264 formats. The video codecs supported include mpeg-4 (xvid, xvid-1.0, ISO reference), mpeg1/2 (libmpeg3, mpeg2dec), H.261, YUV (i420 raw), and through ffmpeg: h.263, Sorenson, some MJPEG, H.264.
Additionally, audio codecs supported comprise aac (faad, faad2 with separate download), mp3, celp, ac3 (with separate download), raw PCM, G.711 alaw and ulaw, and through ffmpeg: AMR NB, AMR WB, G.711 alaw and ulaw.
The software’s streaming capability is quite impressive, supporting RTSP, SDP, RTP (rfc 3551 for raw audio, 2250 for mpeg1/2 audio and video, 3016 for mpeg4 video, 3119 for mp3, 3640 for aac/celp audio, 3267 for AMR octet-aligned only, 3984 for h.264), mpeg2 transport streams (mpeg2 video, mp3 and ac3 audio), both multicast and streaming. Moreover, it also supports HTTP fetch of sdp files.
Other additional features include video in 1/2, double, and full screen and change aspect ratio of video. Audio can adjust channels and format to match hardware, although not frequency. IsmaCryp 1.0 specification is also supported for local playback and streaming playback.
Overall, MPEG4IP is an excellent software package and provides a robust and efficient tool for users interested in exploring the streaming multimedia realm.
