Mpt-status is a software tool that enables users to access and retrieve real-time configuration and status of LSI SCSI HBAs.
Originally developed by Matt Braithwaite, today's version of mpt-status has been heavily modified and includes numerous improvements over the original. It's been tested and works like a charm with LSI 1030 SCSI RAID storage controllers and LSI SAS1064 SCSI RAID storage controllers. However, since the tool uses the message passing interface (MPI), you can expect it to support other LSI-based controllers too.
One of the most significant advantages of mpt-status is its support for 64-bit systems. It's the first release that offers proper 64-bit support, and the interface querying is clean and straightforward. Additionally, the new release includes a comprehensive man page outlining all the features of the tool.
Of all the features that the new version incorporates, one stands out - preliminary work on integrating S.M.A.R.T information in the report output. By adding S.M.A.R.T support, mpt-status now allows you to monitor for failing hardware and change it proactively, reducing the risk of losing data due to a system failure. The new style parameter makes this information easily accessible via the --newstyle/-n parameter. Meanwhile, the percentage status feature of the synchronization after a degradation lets you know how quickly your RAID rebuild is progressing.
In summary, mpt-status makes it easy to monitor the health of your RAID setup. With its support for 64-bit systems and S.M.A.R.T integration features, it's a must-have tool for any serious system administrator.
