MRTG-Misc-Probe is a software tool that can probe various system features and then use the collected data for graphing by MRTG.
Mrtg-misc-probe is a handy tool that probes different system features to generate graphs for MRTG. Currently, it can probe the following metrics:
- Percent usage of disk space and inodes for UFS filesystems
- Percent usage of disk space for VxFS filesystems
- Incoming and outgoing mail messages on sendmail mail server
- Total size of mail messages sent and received on sendmail mail server
- Network delay using NTP peers/servers
- Number of ClearCase vobs and views
- Number of available and used ClearCase and MultiSite licenses
- Number of active and disconnected sessions of a Citrix Metaframe server
- Number of reachable hosts in a given network range
- Network device reachability (ping success)
The latest release of mrtg-misc-probe also comes with two new probes. The first one is ctxmf, which allows you to monitor the number of active and disconnected Citrix Metaframe sessions. The second one is hostcount, which scans a given nmap-network-range and returns the number of hosts found.
Overall, mrtg-misc-probe is a valuable addition to anyone's network monitoring arsenal. With its ability to probe a wide range of system features, it helps to generate accurate and informative graphs for MRTG. If you want to take your network monitoring to the next level, then you should consider giving mrtg-misc-probe a try.
