MuRX is an email filter that eliminates SPAM from your mailbox before downloading it onto your device. This software prevents downloading potentially harmful files to ensure data security.
Before you set up any filtering rules, you must define your e-mail accounts. Each account definition must include keywords such as ACCOUNT, USER, PASSWORD, and SERVER to ensure that MuRX can access and manage your accounts properly. The ACCOUNT keyword and an identifier will introduce an account definition block, and the identifier must be unique in the entire configuration file for ease of tracking and logging.
It is advisable to set up your account definitions with all needed options to help MuRX execute its functions smoothly. For instance, if you want to set up a TLS/SSL account, there are extra entries required, and the value of PROTOCOL can be "pop3" or "pop3s".
With MuRX, you can enjoy key features such as blacklisting using DENY filters, whitelisting utilizing ALLOW filters, and graylisting by utilizing SCORE filters and a HIGHSCORE. MuRX also supports message moving with MOVETO filters on IMAP accounts, AND-blocks for all filter types, and maximum and/or minimum message size rules. You can define a global maximum message size with MAXSIZE_DENY and MAXSIZE_ALLOW and delete duplicate messages.
MuRX also offers support for encrypted connections via TLS/SSL, the normalization of subject lines, and filter testing to ensure that your filters are working correctly.
To use MuRX, you will need a recent C and C++ compiler, scanner, and parser generators such as flex, yacc or bison, support for BSD-type sockets, and openssl libraries (optionally) for TLS/SSL support.
Overall, MuRX is an efficient and useful e-mail filtering system that can help you manage your mailbox and protect your system from spam and viruses.
