To use this plugin successfully, you need to have hiddev-support enabled in your kernel and read-write-permissions for the user running Pidgin to that hiddev-devicefile. The latest version of this plugin works well with Pidgin 2.*.*. Credit goes to Brad Hards for his excellent job in hacking the mouse and sharing the information he found out.
The installation process is relatively easy. You will need to unpack the package and move it to the created directory. Perhaps editing the Makefile may not be necessary. Then, you can make and make install to have the plugin installed on the per-user ~/.purple/plugins-directory. If you want to install it system-wide for all users, copy mx610-notification.so to either /usr/lib/pidgin or /usr/lib64/pidgin, depending on the distro you are using. However, this plugin only works with Linux.
In summary, MX610-notification for Pidgin is an excellent software that you can install in your Linux OS to improve your Pidgin experience. The notification types and ease of use it offers make it handy for constant communication.
