N-View is a network monitoring software designed for small and medium-sized networks. It allows users to monitor their network performance and troubleshoot issues in real-time.
One of the standout features of N-View is its simple and intuitive configuration. The software automatically scans subnets for host addresses and monitors ICMP responses from all hosts. Users can also set configurable limits for response delay, timeout, and port scan intervals. Additionally, individual configuration can be saved in a configuration file for ease of use.
N-View also boasts a graphical display of your network, complete with automatic arranging of icons for hosts and subnets. Users can choose to have arbitrary background pictures for each screen and can signal delays and timeouts with colored icons. A traffic load display for selected network interfaces is also available, with arbitrary labeling for all icons and windows.
Users can receive automatic notifications of status changes via display, acoustic, or email (optional). N-View offers several methods of connection to hosts, including an external browser, internal telnet client, and internal SNMP client/browser.
The software also features flexible displaying options, including tabbed or cascaded windows for subnets and colored printer output of network diagrams. Network diagrams can even be accessed from HTML browsers from inside the network (external HTML server required).
To use N-View, users must have Java Runtime (JRE) version 1.5 or above, as well as a TCP/IP protocol stack and internet browser (only required for displaying the tutorial out of N-View).
In the latest release, N-View has received several new features, including a "Dynamic IP" property for DHCP and DynDNS enabled hosts, an SNMP browser with SNMPv1, v2c and v3 with user authentication and privacy, and Java Native Interface Libraries for ICMP for Windows, Linux x86 and Solaris on x86 and Sparc.
Other updates include a debug level in "Advanced Settings" with Apache logger, a "Snap To Grid" function for icon positions, moveable display tabs for changing the order of subnet-displays, improved dialogs for host- and subnet-properties, executing external commands on warnings, timeouts, and SNMP-trap reception, and enabling sounds on a per host basis.
Overall, N-View is a robust and feature-packed network monitoring software that can help users keep their networks running smoothly.
