GNOME, on the other hand, is an international project aimed at building a complete desktop environment using only free software. This goal includes not only creating software development frameworks but also selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs that manage application launching, file handling, window, and task management.
As part of the GNU Project, GNOME can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, especially Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris. The GNOME project prioritizes simplicity, usability, and overall ease of use. With GNOME, everything is seamlessly integrated to make things "just work."
