netPanzer is a multiplayer tactical game that focuses on quick combat action. It is played online, and its theme revolves around warfare.
One of the key features of netPanzer is its scalable client/server network architecture. This allows for support from 1 to 100 players over the Internet or on LAN systems, depending on the network connection type and game configuration. Players are also able to join or leave multiplayer games at any time.
In terms of gameplay, netPanzer features real-time action without the need to gather resources. You can manually aim your units' fire while they're moving to another location, and maps range in size from 10x13 to 64x85 640x480 size screens. There are three modes of multiplayer combat: objective capture, frag limit, and time limit, and you can change screen resolutions on the fly to 640x480, 800x600, or 1024x768.
Other features include a customizable interface layout, a MiniMap for quick viewing of the world, and special effects like particle system explosions, muzzle shots, missile trails, and dynamic, real-time lighting. There have also been some recent updates, including the ability to configure starting units, removal of duplicated names and flags, and bug fixes.
While official development of netPanzer was halted in 1999, it has been available as Free Software since 2002, with a GNU/Linux port ready to go. All in all, netPanzer offers a fast, action-packed gaming experience that will keep you on your toes.
