NNSD allows remote TCP/IP access to serial ports.
INSD is a product designed to solve these remote access problems. It offers the option to access a serial port remotely through TCP/IP. The program has three parts: the NVSD program emulator of serial ports (up to 255) for the operating system W2K/XP; the NNSD client service that facilitates the exchange between NVSD and TCP/IP; and the NNSD server service that handles the exchange between a real driver of the serial port and TCP/IP.
The NNSD client and server handle both outgoing and incoming flows. The client takes bytes transferred to all virtual ports and then passes them along to the server, which is started on another computer. The client also receives flows from the server and provides the bytes, as though they came from outside, to NVSD.
For each port, the client specifies the IP address of the receiving server, port number, and the number of the real serial port on the receiver. The server receives information from clients and then transfers it to the ports designated by the clients. The server also transfers flows, which come from these ports, to the client. TCP/IP additionally transfers overhead information about the condition of different signals on serial port physical contacts.
In conclusion, INSD provides a convenient and efficient solution to the problems faced by software developers who need to access a serial port remotely. The product offers the benefits of serial port emulation and convenience of TCP/IP-based remote access through its three-part system.
