News Notification is a software that displays RSS news alerts in a popup window, providing users with immediate access to the latest news updates.
One of the best things about News Notification is that you can easily add new feeds by dragging and dropping them into the news icon on the status bar. You can tweak the font settings according to your preferences. Moreover, you get site icons so you can easily recognize the feed source.
Please note that the FG/BG color setting has not been implemented yet, but you can access it in the preferences. To add site icons, make sure News Notification is not running as it could overwrite your configurations. You can follow a few steps to add site icons:
1. Get the site’s favicon.ico or go to the main page source to find the "shortcut icon" in the header.
2. Load the favicon.ico on your favorite graphics editor and save it as a .png file.
3. Copy the png file into $HOME/.news-notification.
4. Edit $HOME/.news-notification/config.
5. Add < icon >icon.png< /icon > under the proper feed channel.
To run News Notification, you need the following requirements: GTK+ version 2.4.x, gnet2, libxml, and libgnomeui. News Notification is a fantastic software that provides a unique and convenient way to catch up on the latest news updates.
