Newts is a contemporary implementation of notesfiles, combining aspects of bulletin board and Usenet. It is maintained frequently and offers current features.
The software has been written specifically for Unix-like systems and can be run on various Linux distributions, Mac OS X as well as other Unix variants. Newts is an actively-maintained software project that is continuously evolving. This means that the software is adaptable enough to serve its users better.
Future versions of the software will boast of an additional daemon that manages multiple local and network connections, as well as additional backends and clients. This makes the software even more versatile for its users.
The latest version of Newts includes bug fixes on various memory issues and segfaults in its utilities and main client. A new client API has also been introduced in this release, although it is still at the draft stage and isn't yet recommended for public use.
