Nget is a free and open source software that allows users to grab files from nntp using the command line.
The key features of the "nget" software include automatic multi-part post joining, automatic binary decoding using uulib, full multi-server support, transparently joining parts from different servers, and full multi-group support, transparently joining parts from multiple newsgroups. Additionally, the tool comes with automatic retries on network errors, dupe file detection to avoid unneeded downloads, and the ability to select what to retrieve based on regular expressions.
Furthermore, users can search for newsgroups based on their names and/or descriptions, and the software automatically handles PAR and PAR2 files by downloading the necessary number of recovery files to repair any missing or damaged files. The header data is cached, thus enabling quick access, and the software has the capacity to resume downloads even after the application closes or shuts down.
If you would prefer to skip the cumbersome process of building "nget" from sources, you can use MacPorts to swiftly install it via command-line by typing "sudo port install nget" in a Terminal window.
