NiceeePC is a script designed to automate tasks on ASUS eeePC devices. It streamlines operations on the compact device for smoother performance.
Some features of the script are kernel version dependent, such as ACPI, Wifi, and overclocking. However, the script can monitor kernel upgrades and update the system even when offline. It can also install Adam's excellent custom kernel for the eeePC. Additionally, NiceeePC can install various useful software applications such as Skype, UCView, Audacious, Avant Window Navigator, and Wine.
The current version of NiceeePC was tested on the eeePC 701 and Ubuntu Linux Hardy Heron 8.04.1 clean install. However, the eeePC 900 is yet to be tested, so users are encouraged to collaborate and test the script for this device. Regrettably, the eeePC 100X is unsupported and untested.
NiceeePC is a secure script, so users can run it several times without worrying about system crashes. Additionally, users have the option to run any function manually. The script enables various function keys, such as toggling wireless, custom OSD, brightness adjustment, VGA switching, volume control, and more.
To install the script, users can type the following commands on a Ubuntu Hardy clean install (with a wired connection):
sudo mkdir /usr/share/niceeepc
cd /usr/share/niceeepc
sudo wget
sudo tar zxvf niceeepc-1.0.tar.gz
sudo ln /usr/share/niceeepc/niceeepc.sh /usr/bin/niceeepc
niceeepc first-run
NiceeePC is built on the work of several developers and projects, including eee.ricey.co.uk, www.x2on.de, Ubuntu eee, eeebuntu, eeeuser.com, Ubuntu eeePC Wiki, Fedora eeePC Wiki, Debian eeePC Wiki, and Gentoo eeePC Wiki. The developers also express gratitude to the kind software libre community, Kiwidrew for the hard work on the eee module, Adam McDaniel for the excellent eeePC custom kernel, the Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Gentoo project, and the kind community from eeeuser.com.
Overall, NiceeePC is an excellent script that offers impressive features and quick solutions for Ubuntu Linux users with ASUS eeePCs.
