The Not So Simple Backup Suite is a complex backup software designed to keep your data safe by creating a backup of your files and folders. It offers advanced features like encryption, compression, and scheduling to provide a comprehensive solution for backing up all types of data quickly and easily.
The NSsbackup software follows the principles of Object Oriented Programming (OOP/OOD), and it was developed in the sbackup svn repository. It is essentially the successor to sbackup but shares no code with its predecessor. The NSsbackup project adds new features, such as log handling and plug-in architecture, which were requested by users, and it fixes many bugs experienced in sbackup.
The main reason for NSsbackup's fork was due to differences between sbackup developers regarding its behavior. While the original sbackup author appeared unable to spend much time on the project, other developers had done a commendable job in addressing bugs and introducing new features. However, when major decisions regarding archive format, packaging, and distribution were due, it became necessary to fork the project. Regardless, compatibility between NSsbackup and sbackup is preserved at all times.
Both NSsbackup and sbackup offer the same functionality, but with a few minor differences. It is up to the user to decide which of the two to use. Still, it is worth noting that not much effort is being dedicated to sbackup, and users are advised to opt for NSsbackup instead. All in all, NSsbackup is a highly recommendable backup solution that delivers excellent functionality and is easy to use.
