The software provides a modified NSTextView that enables users to evaluate equations and convert units in-line, streamlining the process and making it more convenient.
What's particularly helpful is that when the cursor is moved within the extended text view object, the nearby text is scanned to identify equations and unit strings. These are then underlined in a colored and dashed format, with green denoting equations and blue for units. As a user, you can choose to evaluate equations or perform a conversion by invoking a context-sensitive menu with Cmd+Click.
The framework makes an effort to maintain natural language writing when applying unit conversions. For example, "1 quart" will be converted to "1/4 gallon" rather than "0.25 gallons." The engine will also avoid presenting unlikely conversions, such as converting "3.2 miles" into centimeters.
The framework comes with a number of useful tools, such as XCode project files for a modified version of the Apple TextEdit program, the framework's source code, and an editor for creating localized databases of conversion names and factors.
