OTE is an open source language translation and dictionary software project designed for the Internet. It enables easy translation of documents and websites, and offers a range of language-related tools for users.
To install OTE, here are some notes to follow:
1. Place OTE files in a web-accessible directory on your server.
2. Copy the "module/settings.php" file to "module/settings.active.php".
3. Edit "module/settings.active.php" with the correct database settings.
4. Edit "module/class.php" for filesystem and URL settings.
5. Edit ".htaccess" for the correct pathname to the "404.php" file.
6. Edit "404.php" and "robots.txt" for correct pathnames.
7. Create a new database named "ote".
8. Create a database structure via the import of "module/db.structure.sql".
9. Create Dutch/English data by importing "module/db.import.sql".
Please note that OTE depends on the web server running files with no extension as PHP files. In Apache, this is added to the ".htaccess" file:
ForceType application/x-httpd-php
Your web server must be set up to read ".htaccess" files, or you must add the ForceType declaration to your http.conf file.
Overall, OTE is a valuable tool for web users who need language translation and dictionary tools. The installation process requires some technical knowledge, but OTE provides clear instructions to follow. Well worth the effort to enhance your web user experience!
