Samba-vscan allows for on-access scanning of Samba shares using ClamAV.
Samba-vscan is made up of ten Samba VFS modules that allow you to use it with different antivirus programs. These modules include vscan-fprotd, vscan-icap, vscan-kavp, vscan-mks, vscan-oav, vscan-sophos, vscan-trend, vscan-clamav, vscan-nai, and vsan-fsav.
It is worth noting that the vscan-symantec module is statically linked against the symantec library, which is not covered by the GPL. Therefore, the resulting vscan-symantec VFS module may infringe the GPL of Samba. For this reason, the vscan-symantec module will only be built if the --with-symantec flag is used for ./configure.
In the latest release, version 0.3.6b, there have been some updates to the ChangeLog, along with a bugfix for icap/vscan-icap.c.
Overall, Samba-vscan is a useful software that provides on-access scanning and allows you to use different antivirus software with your Samba shares. It is a must-have for anyone looking to add an extra layer of security to their Samba shares.
