Open source network analyzer available for free.
The meter directory contains a C program that's designed to compile under most Unix systems. It's relatively easy to use thanks to a simple Makefile, which allows you to create your meter binary file quickly. However, to use the meter effectively, you'll need to be the root user, as it works in promiscuous mode and uses libpcap.
To run the meter, you don't need any parameters, although documentation on extra parameters is expected in the near future. Meters will only listen to data arriving from the network once you send the order via the analyzer.
You'll find that meters keep a listening socket in port 7777 (IPv4) that the analyzer can connect to. Keep in mind that the analyzer is written in Java, so you'll need to have Java installed on your system to compile it properly. With these features combined, Oreneta is a great tool for anyone looking to analyze networks and improve their system's overall performance.
