Oracle StatsPack Reporter is software that generates custom reports on performance metrics for Oracle databases. It helps users optimize their database performance and diagnose issues quickly with automated analysis and recommendations.
OSPRep reads and gathers data from level 5-7 statistics collected by the statspack.snap() procedure of Oracle StatsPack, and corresponding procedures from the PlugIns mentioned earlier. It generates HTML reports out of this data, similar to the ASCII report generated through Oracle StatsPack's spreport.sql. OSPRep also provides additional information gathered by its PlugIns and explains their meanings, implications, and possible actions required by the DBA to enhance database efficiency.
OSPRep also offers some useful AddOns such as the fts_plans.sh script that can gather execution plans for all SQL statements executed during a certain period of time, and the charts.sh script to generate simple charts for selected statistics. Together with the reports, OSPRep provides valuable information for DBAs to start tuning their applications.
However, it is important to note that OSPRep does not take any direct actions on your database. It does not perform write actions on the database either. The tool only generates HTML report pages and some temporary files which are automatically removed when the script finishes. OSPRep provides no "perfect solution" to problems, it only provides hints to what may be helpful. In order to repair or tune your database, you need to draw your own conclusions from the reports generated by OSPRep.
