ShortcutBar is an ActiveX control that offers a navigation side bar resembling Microsoft Outlook 2003 for your apps. It enables the use of 32-bit alpha channel icons and Unicode text, as well as fully customizability.
The ShortcutBar is divided into three areas: a selection of bars, corresponding panels, and a toolbar at the bottom if there isn't enough space to display all the bars. This design allows you to showcase large amounts of information in a compact space.
One of the great things about ShortcutBar is that it automatically detects your user's color scheme and displays the appropriate themed appearance. Alternatively, you can customize the colors and background pictures to suit your needs. You can also take advantage of the built-in ImageList, which supports 32-bit alpha channel icons for antialiasing and shadows.
This software even comes with a bonus: the OutlookContainer control. This frame control mimics the mini-container in Outlook 2003 and can be used to provide sub-headings within ShortcutBar for different sets of information.
Despite all of these features, the ShortcutBar only adds 140kb to your application. It is easy to use, customizable, and supports Unicode for internationalization.
In summary, if you want to enhance your applications with an Outlook-style navigation sidebar, ShortcutBar is a lightweight and efficient solution with plenty of customizable features.
