Overgod is a multiplayer 2D shooter which uses Allegro as its foundation. Players participate in exciting battles in a fantasy world, and enjoy a visually stunning experience.
Developed by a seasoned game developer, Overgod is an improvement on the creator's last game, Lacewing. You play as a little vehicle in the middle of the screen and fly around shooting things, much like asteroids. However, Overgod introduces new elements to the mix - the enemies move independently and shoot back! You can also upgrade your vehicle in various ways, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.
One of the standout features of Overgod is the sheer number of enemies - there are over 100 to defeat! Plus, with lots of randomness and chaos, you never know what kind of challenge you'll face next. The game also has various modes and unlockable challenges, so there's always something new to try.
If you're looking for a game to play with a friend, Overgod has you covered with its 1 or 2 player splitscreen mode. What's more, the game doesn't require fancy graphics card and has pretty low system requirements (about 300MHz is plenty). This means you can enjoy the game on most platforms.
Overgod is currently available on Windows and Mac, with source code provided under the GPL license. While the links are all to sourceforge, it's worth noting that the developer is releasing the game through Internet cafes and libraries, so there may be some extra steps to download it.
Overall, Overgod is a thrilling shooter that's sure to provide days of fun. Thanks to Michael Faerber and Peter Hull for their contributions to the Linuxisation and Mac version, respectively.
