The Oxygen Icons Software provides an automated process to download, update, and install the latest SVN-version of the KDE 4 iconset Oxygen.
Created by David Vignoni during the first Appeal Project meeting in Berlin on March 2005, Oxygen started with a Nuvola-style design, using vibrant colors and a cartoonish look and feel. However, the team behind Oxygen decided to shift towards a more photo-realistic icon style, resulting in a set of full SVG vector images that use alpha channels, translucency, and embedded bitmaps for complex three-dimensional effects.
The default icon view size for Oxygen is 128×128, providing optimal usability while still maintaining a visually pleasing aesthetic. While inspired by the OS X Aqua style, Oxygen is not intended to be a copy but rather a collection of ideas that people can use to improve visual metaphors.
The goals of Oxygen are to create a well-designed concept that supports usability and accessibility, be innovative and creative, respect use case studies to better fulfill the needs of business and enterprise users, and provide art that is not only functional but also beautiful.
Overall, Oxygen includes a full set of icons with a distinct design note for each icon type, while still adhering to the over-all look-and-feel. Its attention to detail and dedication to quality make it an essential tool for anyone looking to improve their KDE 4 iconset.
