P3pmail is a software that offers a solution for secure emailing by removing harmful HTML tags from emails. It is a beneficial tool for safeguarding information sent via email.
P3pmail is designed to parse only HTML email. To use the tool, you will need to set up a port redirection with iptables so that all connections from your office to any POP3/POP3S/SMTP server outside in the world will not leave your router. Instead, they'll come to a local port on which P3Scan listens, which then receives the original destination from the Linux kernel (the email server outside in the world) and connects to them. This ensures that the process of email safety screening is seamless and effective.
With a little enhancement, P3Scan can also parse necessary parts of the protocol and store any email sent from the server in a file, invoke a scanning process and send it along if it is good or replace it with a virus notification in the event of POP3/POP3S. For infected SMTP messages, the message gets rejected, keeping you and your email contacts safe from malware and viruses.
The software supports all scanners using the scannertype=basic and provides scannertype=avpd for high-speed scanning, using 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux'. What's even better is that neither the client nor the server has to be configured, and none of them will take notice that there's a mail scanner working behind the scenes, providing an uninterrupted and seamless reading and sending experience.
To use P3pmail, you will need to have these requirements in place: pcre-devel, iptables, clamav-devel, An Anti-Virus program, DSPAM Statistical Spam Protection (optional), Mail: SpamAssassin (optional), and renattach (optional).
This release of p3pmail corrects a bug that existed when freshclam updates clamav database, making it more effective and reliable in identifying and removing dangerous HTML tags from email messages. With p3pmail, you get peace of mind knowing that your email messages are safe, and you can focus on your work without worries.
