Palm Desktop is a software that allows Mac users to sync their Palm PDA device. This enables the sharing of crucial data and vital information on both devices.
With Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for Mac, you can now synchronize data between your palmOne handheld and several applications such as Note Pad, Date Book, Palm Photos (backup functionality for Palm Photos handheld application only), Voice Memo, Address Book, Memo Pad, and To-Do.
The latest release of Palm Desktop (Rev C) fixed the file and folders permission issue, which previously caused iSync functionality impairment during installation without administrator rights. If you encountered this issue, make sure to install the latest version (Rev C) to fix it.
Palm Desktop is compatible with several handheld devices like Tungsten C, Tungsten E, Tungsten W, Tungsten T, Tungsten T2, Tungsten T3, Zire 72, Zire 71, Zire 31, Zire 21, Zire, Palm i705, Palm m500 series, Palm m100 series, Palm VII series, Palm V series, Palm III series, and PalmPilot handhelds.
For Zire 72 and Zire 31 users, it's recommended to use the Palm Desktop version that came with their handheld, as additional conduits and applications are included on the CD version. Tungsten T5 users must also use the version that came with their handheld.
In terms of desktop requirements, Palm Desktop is compatible with Apple Macintosh or a compatible with a PowerPC processor running Mac OS X (version 10.1.2 or higher) or Mac OS 9 (version 9.2.2 and higher) with 12 MB of available memory. You also need at least 25 MB free hard disk space and one available USB port if used with Palm USB Universal Cradle or PalmConnect USB Kit or one open serial (printer/modem) port and PalmConnect Serial Kit or Palm Serial HotSync Cradle (Mac OS 9 only).
The latest release of Palm Desktop (Rev D) addresses the permissions issue more elegantly and has improved installer behavior. However, if you already installed Rev C, there's no need to update to Rev D. If some of your Mac applications no longer work after installing Palm Desktop, you may need to reinstall these applications. See Knowledge Library article 40283 for more details.
