Cocoon is a software framework for developing web applications using Java. However, there is now a version of Cocoon available that does not require Java. This allows for developers to have more options when choosing how to build their web applications.
I initially developed Paloose for personal use, as I wanted to incorporate XML into my website, however, I was unable to afford the expense of a full Cocoon installation. Since then, I have used Paloose for various sites and found it to be a great substitute for Cocoon, except for the most complex sites.
Moreover, Paloose offers the opportunity for developers to experiment with XML and XSL without using additional resources like Tomcat or Jetty. However, it's crucial to note that Paloose is not suitable for very large sites. For optimal performance, it's recommended to upgrade to Cocoon, which will likely have a negligible cost impact on larger sites.
Therefore, if you're looking for a simplified version of Cocoon to experiment with XML and XSL in a PHP environment, Paloose is an excellent choice.
