Parallel BZIP2 is a parallel implementation software of the BZIP2 block compression algorithm.
One of the best things about PBZIP2 is that it produces output that is fully compatible with bzip2 1.0.2, which means you can decompress anything compressed with PBZIP2 using bzip2. Plus, this software should work on any system with a pthreads compatible C++ compiler like gcc.
PBZIP2 has already been tested and used successfully on various operating systems, including Linux, Windows (cygwin & MinGW), Solaris, Tru64/OSF1, HP-UX, and Irix. So no matter which system you're using, PBZIP2 is worth a try if you need a high-performance file compressor.
