ParallelKnoppix is a variant of Knoppix, redesigned for high-performance parallel computing, with optimized resource allocation and parallel process management.
The software is user-friendly and it only takes approximately 5 minutes to set up the cluster of machines. This is particularly true when the machines have PXE network cards. The cluster can range from 2 to 200 machines, and both homogeneous and heterogeneous clusters are supported.
The best thing about ParallelKnoppix is that it can convert an entire room of machines that run Windows into a Linux cluster. And, once you are done with the processing, your machines can return to their original state without any additional configuration.
This release comes with a plethora of new features. There is a 64-bit version, and a 32-bit version is available as well. The /home and /root directories are NFS exported, which utilizes advanced users to add additional users. Advanced users also have the option to mount a storage device at /home, which enables them to save their work between sessions.
Moreover, the software comes with updated technology such as Linux kernel 2.6.23.8, Open MPI 1.2.4, Octave 2.9.14, SciPy 0.60, NumPy 1.0.3.1, Parallel Python 2.5rc, KDE 3.5.8, Cloop 2.0622, and Aufs cvs 17-10-07.
Overall, ParallelKnoppix is a powerful software solution that enables users to set up parallel processing clusters with ease. Its user-friendly interface, swift setup time, and advanced features make it an excellent option for organizations that require workstations to work as a single unit.
