The Phoronix Test Suite LiveCD is a compact Gentoo Linux distribution that enables the usage of the Phoronix Test Suite on any personal computer.
The benchmark is composed of single-core tasks, such as audio encoding, as well as multi-core tasks, including compilation, system performance tests like OpenSSL and GZip, and synthetic benchmarks like Scimark and Super-Pi. Results can be easily exported to a USB drive, and the software supports limited wireless WEP connectivity as well as full wired connectivity.
Perhaps one of the most useful features of the Phoronix Test Suite LiveCD is its ability to upload test results to the www.phoronix-test-suite.com database. This allows users to compare their own results with those of others who have run the same benchmarks.
Developers of the software note that the init process is not yet final, and there is one step that takes approximately 3-5 minutes (Copying files to tmpfs). Work is ongoing to improve this aspect of the software.
Recent updates to the software include the addition of support for Broadcom 43XX cards and a new series of benchmarks. Overall, the Phoronix Test Suite LiveCD provides a comprehensive set of tools for testing system performance and benchmarking, making it a valuable addition to any software testing toolkit.
