Pinki is a software feature that allows users to create thumbnail icons for their menu items.
There are three ways to assign custom thumbnail icons to image files. The first option is to open each image in Preview, use the 'File->Copy' menu, close the image, Get Info on the file in the Finder, highlight its icon in the info box, and use the 'File->Paste' menu. The second option is to navigate to the folder holding the files, select the 'View -> View Options' menu, then click the box labeled 'Show Icon Preview'. This option requires the computer to assign custom thumbnail icons each time the folder is opened, which can slow down computer performance on newer models. Furthermore, the custom thumbnail icon data isn't actually saved inside of the image file itself, so moving or copying the file will cause the custom icons to disappear.
The third and most efficient method is to select all files you want to assign a custom thumbnail icon to at once, then choose "Create Thumbnail(s)" from the Pinki menu item. Alternatively, you can hit Command-Shift-T on the keyboard after selecting the files to make the process even quicker. With this method, Pinki assigns custom thumbnail icons that stay with the image file permanently.
In addition to creating custom thumbnail icons, Pinki also has tools to remove custom thumbnails if desired, thus restoring icons to their generic state. It also allows users to save thumbnails as separate .icns files. Finally, Pinki supports all major image formats, including JPEG, BMP, PNG, PDG, GIF, and TIFF.
Overall, Pinki is a great addition for anyone who wants to make their file icons look more appealing or needs to organize their files visually.
