PKanaEditor software offers users the possibility to write in romanji and automatically convert it to Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji making writing in Japanese accessible for beginners.
The primary goal of this editor is to convert Romanji to Hiragana/Katakana, but it is customizable to a great extent, and about 80 Kanji are also available in the embedded data file. PKanaEditor is compatible across multiple platforms such as Linux-based, Mac OS X, Windows systems (only XP tested) and most of the UNIX-based systems (*BSD, etc.).
To compile the code for Mac, all you need to do is enter the following commands in a Terminal window (after ensuring that you are in the PKanaEditor folder): qmake PKanaEditor.pro make ./PKanaEditor. The software has a few requirements such as Qt4 (at least 4.2.0 but 4.3.0 or newer is recommended), g++, and make. Overall, PKanaEditor is a great choice for those who want a reliable and efficient text editor that simplifies the Japanese language for non-native speakers.
