PKSampler is a live-dj software tool designed for easy and seamless mixing of audio tracks. Perfect for professional DJs, it allows for real-time manipulation and layering of music tracks.
The engine that powers PKSampler is a high-performance Python music engine with reliable real-time performance and low-latency for in-out events. A real-time timeline is used so that music time is relative like a typical pattern-mode instead of song-mode. Additionally, the engine offers good media support, including WAV, OGG, MP3, and others. Basic sample-sequencing and reasonably fast peak level values are also supported, as well as tempo setting.
Regarding options, the focus of this project is on the Python side, which means that the author has scrapped pkaudio and is looking for a replacement. The aim is to find a suitable low-level Python audio library that can be wrapped easily, although the author acknowledges this to be a far-off dream. Hence, the author is considering FMOD/pySonic 4.0, which needs a Python interface, and pySonic, which builds fine on IA32, but has no AMD64 support and is hard to build on PPC.
Overall, if you're someone who wants to mix multiple samples effortlessly, PKSampler might be an excellent option for you. Its focus on a simple touchscreen interface and its high-performance Python music engine make it stand out from the rest.
