PMFirewall is a Linux-based firewall and masquerading configuration utility that uses Ipchains. It provides secure network access control and hides internal network topology for enhanced security.
One of the great things about PMFirewall is its ability to provide restrictive protection against outside attacks while remaining transparent to those inside. Additionally, PMFirewall is compatible with virtually every distribution of Linux. If you do happen to encounter any issues, the development team is open to feedback and open to optimization.
The new features in the latest release make PMFirewall an even more powerful tool: you now get auto-detection of the IP address and netmask of each interface, protection against NetBIOS, NetBUS, Back Orifice, and Samba attacks, IP spoofing protection, logging of DENY packets, manipulation of TOS bits of the packet to optimizing transfers (so long as CONFIG_IP_ROUTE_TOS is enabled in your kernel), and masquerading support decided during install. Additionally, there's the option to add your own rules to pmfirewall.rules.local file.
Overall, PMFirewall is a powerful and highly accessible utility that makes it easy to build custom firewalls on Linux. If you're new to the platform or just looking for a simpler way to fine-tune your settings, this is definitely an option worth exploring.
