Polyspool - open source spooler for printing, providing functions to queue and manage print jobs.
Polyspool follows a unique mechanism for rendering print jobs. The application employs the standard PostScript driver found in the Windows operating system and Ghostscript. This approach drastically reduces the requirement for multiple drivers to support printers, as only one driver is necessary for any supported printer.
Key features of Polyspool include spooling of Print Jobs from Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista clients. It also enables automated installation of the PostScript driver via Point and Print. Apart from the basic GUI interface from the shell prompt, this release can be used for creating basic Windows print shares and submitting print jobs.
However, it's imperative to note that the Polyspool release doesn't provide the ability to save information between boots. Therefore, every configuration will be lost after rebooting the device.
The latest release of Polyspool comes with several new features, including IE 7 compatibility for the web UI. The Web UI integrates with the Dojo Toolkit for input widgets and validation. Additionally, the updated version features updated versions of Samba, Ghostscript, Cups, and the PPDs for more efficient performance.
Overall, Polyspool is an excellent open-source print spooler that can help streamline the printing process across a variety of platforms.
