Poweradmin is a user-friendly software for managing DNS in Bert Hubert's PowerDNS server through a web interface. It simplifies DNS administration tasks for administrators.
This version of Poweradmin builds upon the original software written by Jorn Ekkelenkamp and Roeland Nieuwenhuis a few years ago. The current version boasts numerous features that were missing in the original code, along with significant performance optimizations. We have also removed the "sequence updater" and replaced the database abstract layer code to ensure its stability.
Currently, we are working hard to smooth out the basic setup. Once all functionality is fixed, we will shift our attention to improving the interface, enhancing its usability, and making it more attractive for users. The Poweradmin project has been released under the GPL license.
To use Poweradmin, your setup must meet several requirements. Version 2.1 through 2.9.20 of PowerDNS, MySQL or PostgreSQL, Apache 2.2.3, and PHP, at least version 4.2.1 with the mysql or pgsql extension, are essential. PEAR and its packages PEAR::MDB2, version 2.4.1, and PEAR::MDB2_Driver_mysql, version 1.4.0, or PEAR::MDB2_Driver_pgsql are also needed, and GNU gettext should be installed, with version 0.16.1 tested.
Using the installer is the recommended method for installing Poweradmin. Before installing Poweradmin, create a backup of your current PowerDNS database. The installer assumes that you have never used Poweradmin before or that you intend to overwrite the existing Poweradmin database. Still, it will not modify the existing data in the PowerDNS tables of the database. However, we highly suggest that you take a backup of your database before proceeding.
After downloading the Poweradmin package from the website, unpack it in your desired web directory. Then, go to the install directory in your browser, follow the on-screen directions to complete the installation process, and remove the "install/" directory from the Poweradmin directory.
For manual installations, we highly recommend that you create a backup of your current PowerDNS database before proceeding. After downloading the Poweradmin package from the website, unpack it in the web directory, add a SQL user for the PowerDNS database, import the Poweradmin database structure into the PowerDNS database, and create a configuration. Copy "inc/config-me.inc/php" to "inc/config.inc.php" and provide all required values. Finally, remove the "install/" directory from the Poweradmin directory, and you should be able to log in using the username "admin" and password "admin". The first thing to do is to change the password of the user "admin".
