PPPTCP is a software that creates a peer-to-peer IP tunnel by establishing a PPP connection over any TCP port.
Before using PPPTCP, the user must first ensure that PPP is enabled in their kernel and pppd is installed as /usr/sbin/pppd. The software can run both with and without random-key DES encryption, depending on user preference.
The program can be used by entering the command "ppptcp [-keyring
The -keyring option allows for the setup of IP hostname based wildcard rules that restrict access or apply specific ppp options for certain hosts. Further, if ppptcp is compiled with encryption features, the "./auth.crypt/genkeys" program can be used to generate RSA public/private keys for authentication and encryption. More information on the keyring file is available in the "README.keyring" file.
The user can also set default options for pppd on the command line after the port, which separate from the rest of the command line with "--". These options can be overridden by options specified in the keyring file.
PPPTCP requires the RSA and DES libraries to function properly. In the latest release, the software has undergone the following update: every key in the keyring is now searched through for authentication purposes.
Overall, PPPTCP is a user-friendly program that offers various features for securing and configuring a PPP connection over a TCP port.
